Robert and Emily Gilderson Family
Robert Gilderson was born in 1864 in Dagenham, Essex (now part of East London). He lived most of his life in nearby Ilford, and worked as a wheelwright and coach builder in a business owned by his father.
Emily Sankey was born in 1865 in the St Luke’s District of central London. Her parents were John (1842-1909), a printer and grocer, and Emma (1838-1935) Sankey.
Robert and Emily were married in 1887, and had three children: Robert John (1890-1969), John Sankey (1892-1972), and Minnie (1897-1991), who was known as Babs. The couple divorced in the early 1900s. After divorcing, Robert lived in lived in Romford and then Southend-on-Sea, both in county of Essex. Emily lived with her daughter Babs in Southwick, Sussex.
