Frank and Elsie (Pidduck) Kirton Family

Frank Kirton was born 20 December 1893 in Bottesford, Leicestershire, England, to parents John and Ann Kirton. Frank served in the Yorkshire Regiment in Europe during the First World War.

Elsie Louisa Pidduck was born 15 July 1898 in Flete, near Margate, Kent, England, to parents William and Edith Pidduck.

Frank and Elsie were married in Ash-next-Sandwich, Kent, England on 23 July 1918. Below is the wedding day family group portrait: to the right of the bride in the photo are her parents, Edith and William Pidduck. The groom is behind her in uniform and her brothers are at either end of the back row, Albert at left, and Ned at right.

Women in England performed jobs during the First World War that would have been closed to them before the war. Elsie worked as a letter carrier. The photos below show her in uniform with her letter satchel and bicycyle.

William and Edith Pidduck Family

William Pidduck was born in early 1873 in Birchington, Isle of Thanet, Kent. His parents were George (1839-1915), a carter and farm laborer, and Ann (1840-1930). William worked as a farm labourer and as the proprietor of the George and Dragon Public House in Ash-next-Sandwich, Kent.

Edith Mary Dennett was born 28 December 1875 in Minster, Isle of Thanet, Kent. Her parents were John (1848-1925), a waggoner and farm labourer, and Harriett (1849-1932). Before her marriage to William on 16 October 1897, Edith worked as a domestic servant.

After William passed away in 1922, Edith carried on operating the pub.

William and Edith had three children: Elsie Louisa (1898-1992), Albert William (1900-1934), and Edward Charles (1902-1999).
